Debate Club Activity 5 1

Formed in 2017, the Debate Club was one of the first student-run organisations in Manthan. Purvi Reddy founded it with the goal of providing a safe platform for her classmates to voice their opinions and foster a love for debating. The Junior Debate Club is comprised of 8th graders, while the Debate Club consists of students from Grades 9 to 12. Haasini Kellampalli and Ishan Khire currently lead it.

Through debates, interactive discussions, and research projects, members are exposed to a wide range of topics and encouraged to learn in a multi-dimensional, open-minded manner. They hone their public speaking and critical thinking skills to become confident orators.

The club introduces various exercises to improve their diction and build a solid general-knowledge base. It helps them make strategic and well-constructed arguments. Most importantly, the Debate club aims to build a community of passionate students who understand world issues and can empathise with people with differing perspectives.

The Debate Club also equips students with the necessary tools to debate on regional, zonal, and national levels. Club members have been successful in the national debate selections held by the Indian Schools Debating Society (ISDS) for the past seven years. These rigorous competitions take place at the regional, zonal, and national levels to select a team to represent India in various national and international debate competitions.

I have been in Manthan for 11 years and I would definitely say that I find it a very suitable environment for learning. The small class size allows each student to have a sense of familiarity and personalisation that can help everyone thrive. The teachers are also always extremely supportive and go to great lengths to help students learn.

Manthan is a wonderful place to study, grow and interact. It provides an encouraging atmosphere for students, and the teachers here, are really supportive. My social skills have developed, and I have seen myself improve academically.
